FIRST THURSDAY of the month. One Point night. This is ideal for new members as there are no clocks and no cubing decisions to be made. Each player will play 12 matches. 1pt will be awarded for every win and there are no bonus points.
The year is split into two seasons for this competition with the top player in each season gaining a place in the end of year Overall Club Champion Competition.
SECOND THURSDAY of the month. Free format. Players will be free to do anything they want including flexibility on arrival and leaving times. The matches from the new knockout tournament will be strongly encouraged to be played on this night but not exclusively so.
Head to head matches, chouette, catch up on outstanding matches and taking time to play and coach new members or beginners are all options on this night.
John and a couple of other members have indicated they will assist in offering to spend time with beginners or improvers on this night and established players are welcome and encouraged to join in.
THIRD THURSDAY of the month. 3 Point night.
FORMAT
The Third Thursday of the month will be reserved for 3pt night, the scoring system will be changed from that used last year.
Each player will score 1 point for a win and all points accrued over the season will count towards their total.
Any outstanding matches must be played before the next 3pt evening, failure to do so will result in both players forfeiting the match unless of course there are mitigating circumstances.
A season will last for 6 months. The first season will therefore finish on June 19th. Players will have until 30th June to play any unfinished matches.
The second season will finish on 20th November and players will have until 30th November to play unfinished matches.
There will be an extra 3 point night on 30th October to ensure both seasons have six sessions each.
The player finishing top at the end of each season will gain a place in the club championship. In the event of a tie the player with the best %age of wins will be adjudged the winner. If players are still tied then a single playoff match of 3 points will be played.
In the event of the same player winning both seasons, then the second Championship place will go to the second placed player with the best record (again using %age wins to resolve a tie). If both players are still tied then a single 3 point playoff will be used.
CLOCKS
The 3-point competition will be clock mandatory. This means that clocks must be used for all matches. There are a number of reasons why :
a. This is the only evening where we quite often have time pressure with unplayed matches having to be played on another night
b. We should be trying to get all our members comfortable with using clocks. Anyone going to a tournament with limited clock experience will find themselves at a grave disadvantage.
c. As has been pointed out before, the use of clocks with a single pair of dice eliminates a lot of the issues caused by premature rolls and illegal moves.
Players that are new to the club are to be given an ‘exempt’ status so that they cannot lose a match on the clock. This status remains until they have played six 3-point nights. Would players who possess clocks please bring them along to first Thursdays if possible.
POOLS
There will be a £5 optional pool. This will be split roughly 70-30 between the two highest placed participants in the
pool.
The tie-break to decide the pool distribution will be :
a. Head-to-head record if all players tied on the same score have played each other.
b. Points difference over the six matches
c. Points-for over the six matches.
d. If all the above are equal then split the pool equally between tied players.
FOURTH THURSDAY of the month. Masterclass Evening. Usually a presentation of 8 positions with discussions around what is the correct move or cube decision. This is followed by whatever players would like to do and catch up on any outstanding 3pt, 1pt, League or Cup matches.
FIFTH THURSDAY of the month when there is one is open to suggestion and also a chance to catch up on any outstanding matches.
Given the introduction of new formats can players please fill the score sheet in promptly and it would help if players record their own individual results separately to make things easier if there are queries at the end of the evening.
The Knockout Competition will run twice over the year, first of all from February - May there will then be a break in June/July before a second knockout which will run from August - November.
The first round draw will be made on the first Thursday of each month and players will have until the first Thursday the following month to complete their matches ahead of the next draw. Players are very much encouraged to play their matches on the second Thursday of the month at CTK in order to support the club where possible. The matches will be over 11 pts and will be clock preference. The winners of each of the two events will get a place in the Club Championship.
The 2025 11 point league will also run for but until numbers are finalised we can't say how many leagues and numbers within leagues there will be. The top player from each season will gain automatic entry into the Club Championship.
Club Championship will once again be held throughout December and will be contested by players from the events as explained above. Players will be allowed multiple entries.
The "LBGC Shield" will be a knockout event which will run in December and be open to any members not involved in the club championship, there will be a trophy plus an engraved shield to keep for 12 months.
QUALIFICATION for the Annual Club Championship
There will be an annual Club Championship Tournament held every December.
Eight places are available which will be taken by the top player in each of the 2 seasons of the 1pt, 3pt, League & KO
The annual league. For the current 2024 season (9 Point), the top two players from league will each receive an entry. If there is a tie for 2nd & 3rd pace the primary tie break will be the head-to-head record between the players. Secondary tie break is points difference. Tertiary tie break is ‘points for.
A single player may receive multiple entries (up to 4).
